Polish AI Olympiad

LinkedInFacebook

Artificial intelligence is becoming a world-wide strategic field, in a very broad sense: from education, technology and industry to economy. We want to create a new competition for high school students interested in this branch of knowledge. We believe that, following the examples of the Mathematics Olympiad or the Computer Science Olympiad, our initiative will increase interest in this field and create a large group of passionate experts in artificial intelligence.

Similar initiatives are emerging globally and internationally: on August 9-15, 2024, the first-ever International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad will be held in Burgas, Bulgaria. Poland will participate with a 4-member team, selected through our national Artificial Intelligence Olympiad.

Outline of the Olympiad

Stage I: online, April 22 – May 27, 2024

In the first stage, open to all high school students in Poland, registered participants solve 7 tasks independently at home and submit them to the Committee for evaluation. Impartial metrics are used to grade each solution. Those who score the highest will be invited to the second stage. Problems from the Stage I are published on GitHub: (pl.) https://github.com/OlimpiadaAI/I-OlimpiadaAI

Stage II: Krzyżowa (Lower Silesian Voivodeship), June 15 – 21, 2024.

In the second stage, 30 participants selected from the first round will compete for a spot on the 4-person team that will represent Poland at the International Olympiad in Bulgaria. The event will take the form of a scientific camp combined with a graded competition. The organizers will cover the cost of participation in the event for invited participants.

Educational materials

The themes and nature of the tasks will be analogous to those of the International Olympiad, which are described on the IOAI website

AI programming requires advanced mathematical and programming knowledge, which is why we have organized an introductory course during the first (online) stage of the Olympiad. We have held 5 online/hybrid lectures on Basics of ML, Neural Networks, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, and Explainability. We have also published supplementary materials.
